BIOGRAPHY

Edward Mauritius Münch, born in Mannheim in 1990, is a conductor and harpsichordist. He initially studied school music at the Freiburg im Breisgau University of Music and was a musical assistant at the Freiburg Theater. He then continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in orchestral conducting, choir conducting and the concert subjects harpsichord and basso continuo. ​

 

He also received valuable conducting and musical impulses from the chief conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre in Paris Douglas Boyd, Gerhard Markson (Freiburg), Johannes Schlaefli (Zurich), Hans-Christoph Rademann (Dresden), Andrés Orozco-Estrada (Vienna), David Hill (Manchester), Ulrich Windühr (Hamburg), Frieder Bernius (Stuttgart), Michael Hofstetter (Graz), Nicolás Pasquet (Brescia) and Dame Emma Kirkby. ​ He conducted the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Savaria Symphony Orchestra Szombathely (HU), the Orion Orchestra (UK), the Hamburg Camerata, the RNCM Chamber Orchestra Manchester (UK), the Master Orchestra Brescia (IT), the Drauphilharmonie Villach, the University Orchestra of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the Manchester Chamber Choir (UK), the Stuttgart Chamber Choir and the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir Ljubljana (SI).

In Graz he was musical director of the Graz BläserVielharmonie, the chamber orchestra Diletto Grazioso, co-founder of the vocal ensemble Horus Vocals as a bass-baritone singer, was assistant conductor with the Styriarte recreation orchestra and assistant with the vocalforumgraz on several occasions. From 2019 to 2024 he held a permanent position as "Kapellmeister" (musical director) at the Benedictine monastery of St. Paul im Lavanttal and was therefore also chief conductor of the monastery choir and the Capella Paulina project orchestra as well as the Capella Paulina baroque.

 

In the summer of 2021, he took over the musical direction of the Murau Operetta Games and made his debut as conductor of the large symphony orchestra in a crossover concert project in the Salzburg Festival Hall. In 2022 he took part in the International Handel Academy in Karlsruhe, was accompanist at the Styriarte in Graz in the production of the baroque opera La corona di Arianna by Johann Joseph Fux and accompanied the 2023 production of Pygmalion by Rameau at the Graz Opera as a harpsichordist. For several years he has devoted himself increasingly to early music and historically informed performance practice and has recently been particularly committed to cultivating the sacred oeuvre of Georg Philipp Telemann.

 

From the 2024/2025 season, Edward Mauritius Münch is chorus master at the Bremerhaven City Theater and will therefore be responsible for the choral rehearsals of the current musical theater productions with the opera choir, the extra choir and also the children's choir, which works in cooperation with the Catholic Church of Bremerhaven. He also conducts performances of My Fair Lady and Die Troerinnen (in cooperation with the acting company).
